KOMÖDIE IM BAYERISCHEN HOF has a long cultural tradition. As early as 1886, the chronicle of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof mentions the first cultural events, which ended abruptly with the destruction of Munich in 1944. The mother of long-time hotel owner Falk Volkhardt, a well known singer, had a concert hall built after the reconstruction of the hotel. Falk Volkhardt continued the cultural tradition of the family and commissioned the government master builder Dr. Erwin Schleich with the design of today’s theatre. It was reopened on 31 October 1961 under the direction of Gerhard Metzner and celebrated its 50th birthday on 31 October 2011. The hotel is still family owned and managed by Innegrit Volkhardt.

From the 1992/93 season until her completely unexpected death at the end of January 2016, Margit Bönisch very successfully led the KOMÖDIE IM BAYERISCHEN HOF. Since February 2016 Prof. Thomas Pekny, for decades stage and costume designer of the house, has been continuing the theatre in the spirit of the long-standing principaless.

The theatre, elegantly renovated by Margit Bönisch, offers a wide range of comedies, musical comedies, plays and revues in a luxurious setting. Stars such as Hans-Jürgen Bäumler, Hugo Egon Balder, Jochen Busse, Matthieu Carrière, Günther Maria Halmer, Herbert Herrmann, Heiner Lauterbach, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Georg Preusse oder Saskia Vester have been guests here. In the next season stars such as Katharina Abt, Viktoria Brams, Daniel Friedrich, Joseph Hannesschläger, Joachim Hermann Luger, Sven Martinek, Angelika Milster, Ingo Naujoks, Simone Rethel, Heiko Ruprecht, Jutta Speidel, Friedrich von Thun, Carin C. Tietze, Isabel Varell or Peter Weck can be seen here. The musical works are just as highly acclaimed as the boulevard plays at the highest level.

“This night or never” with Isabel Varell and Heiko Ruprecht.
Duration: daily 19. 6. to 28. 7. 2019, except 8. and 9. 7. 2019

Immerse yourself in Munich's traditional and colourful theatre world at Komödie im Bayerischen Hof.
Double-baked and full of irony, Gabriel Barylli shows how big and small malice, intrigue and jealousy rise up in alcohol, and how convention and good upbringing dissolve like a snail shell in hydrochloric acid.
Diese Nacht – oder nie!
Komödie von Laurent Ruquier
Deutsch von Manfred Langner
Eine Produktion der Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart
in Zusammenarbeit mit der Komödie im Bayerischen Hof München
In a humorous way - accompanied by a lot of music - the French author investigates in this swinging comedy the question whether there can be platonic love between man and woman and puts a couple on stage who almost solved this riddle, had it not been for Cupid's arrow that flew there.
